Making dolls has been the most constant aspect of my life since I was six years old. Yet after hundreds of dolls over the last seventeen years, it is only now, in the most recent months of my life that I’ve been finally able to give birth to the ideas that were conceived years ago but were not ready to materialize in the way I had dreamed them up. And now they are. I was always meant to do this, I know it. Creating a visual narrative is how I want and need to articulate my ideas and perhaps because of this that the most intriguing aspect of a doll for me is its potential for such visual story. My strong tendency for escapism has made the make belief narrative of fairy tales very appealing to me as a context for my dolls. What intrigues me about a fairy tale is the implicit and often explicit violence that lies just beneath the surface of the magic.
